A day in the life of a Bright Start Child

Greetings from Cape Town!

It is mid-way through the last term of 2015. Exams are starting next week and at Bright Start we have been organizing maths and English tutoring classes for the kids. It has been going well, even though there have been mixed feelings about extra classes...

The children Bright Start support live in the Hout Bay suburb of Cape Town. This means we often see them on a daily basis, it means we know their parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. Next Friday, in fact we will be organizing a positive parenting workshop in one of the local schools. We find parents and grandparents attending, asking advice about the children and grandchildren!

Bright Start Education Support is a community-minded non profit organization based within the disadvantaged communities of Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg in the Hout Bay, Cape Town. Our mission is to improve the overall development and welfare of children in the Western Cape. Bright Start aims to integrate the children into South African society, giving them all the opportunities to be well-balanced and confident adults of the future. To achieve this goal we provide an holistic support involving the whole family including access to quality education for children from the age of 3 to 13 and support for parents in training and positive parenting skills. We encourage the whole family to engage in their child's schooling and also ensure the children are involved in extra scholar activities.

In 2016 -2017, Bright Start aims to offer more after-care and tutoring activities. Baseline assessments show that there is still a huge need for tutoring and after-care due to the high percentage of school drop outs and out of schoolers in the Hout Bay area.

Support a Bright Start child! YOU will be able to follow the progress step by step towards a brighter future, thanks to the incredible opportunity you'll will be creating for him/her!
