Time Is Now! for our Partner Timebanking UK
Our Partner Charity, Timebanking UK, is organising their annual national conference Time Is Now!. It will take place on November 12-13 in Stirling Scotland. As well as celebrating the work being achieved across the UK, they will be welcoming their international friends and colleagues from USA, Russia, Israel and Europe. TBUK will be offering a variety of workshops and presentation, including a seminar by Dr Edgar S. Cahn, CEO of TimeBanks USA, a nonprofit organization he established in 1995, and the leading expert in Timebanking.
Dr Cahn is a Law Professor, author, activist, and former counsel and speechwriter to Robert F. Kennedy. Edgar has dedicated his life to achieving social justice for the disenfranchised and he is renowned for inspiring audiences with a powerful vision of a compassionate and fair society. Dr Cahn is passionate about social entrepreneurship and the culture of reciprocity.
Timebanking UK is the only national charity which supports the growth and development of time banks across the United Kingdom. TBUK involves over 30,000 people and 3,600 organisations within its membership, all of whom exchange time and resources within their communities. Their real time statistics show over 2.5 million hours of community activity has been exchanged within their networks. Time banks are unique organisations that focus on the assets that everyone has – no matter what your age, background, experience or ability, encouraging the development of mutual practical and social support networks where people exchange time, not money and where everyone’s time is equal.

Timebanking UK continue to support the development of time banks across the UK where people exchange time instead of money. Timebanking UK want to provide training and to expand the resources and opportunities of time banks in a number of ways:
Sponsor time banks to enable them to attend Timebanking UK upcoming Conference.
Helping Leave Hospital: a new timebanking project which helps patients to leave hospital and go home as soon as they can and want to. Timebank members can help by preparing the home, getting some shopping and fresh food in, collecting the person from hospital etc.
Supporting refugees and asylum seekers: developing a new project enabling them to access support and help in local communities. Focussing on the skills and abilities of refugees will promote their positive contribution and enable smoother integration.
Increasing Employability: by working with job centres to help long term unemployed people to build skills and confidence through community timebanking. It is recognised as a stepping stone to formal volunteering and enrolment on training courses leading to paid employment.
Timebanking UK is looking to raise funds to help with these projects specifically and would be pleased to hear from any sponsor who could assist. They know that timebanking is particularly successful in these areas having seen flagship schemes flourish in England.
