Our Partner, The Healthy Living Club, turns £30k into £500k!

We are proud to announce that The Healthy Living Club’s activities have been found to create positive social value for all those involved according to a study published by The Dementia team at the Health Innovation Network (HIN). HIN’s social return on investment study measured the Social Return on Investment (SROI) of three peer support groups for people with dementia in London including The Healthy Living Club at Lingham Court (HLC).

HLC, one of our Partner Charities, is a small British charity working hard and joyfully, enabling a community of people with dementia, their carers, friends and volunteers to meet every week, maintaining a strong sense of belonging in place of isolation.

Grass-root organisations like The HLC often don't have the resources to quantify their output and prove their cost effectiveness to funders. The evidence contained in the report is based on a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis. It is a method of measuring the social impact of activities, projects and programmes and of placing a monetary value on them. The focus of this SROI is on the value gained from peer support groups to the individual, carers and families, and others associated with the group.

Although ‘social value’ is difficult to quantify, the report estimated that HLC’s £30,784 of funding translates to £506,094 in annual ‘social value’. This is thanks in no small part to the indispensable volunteers who contribute an estimated value of £58,736 of their time.

The HIN results provide benchmark evidence and costs around delivering peer support interventions. They point to the fact that intervention for post-diagnosis support in the shape of the activities provided by the HLC are currently under-valued hence under-funded while their contribution prove to create positive social value for all those involved.
